10 Forgotten Dog Breeds of India

10 Forgotten Dog Breeds of India

India is a dynamic country that is known for its history, monuments, cuisine, culture, spirituality, diversity, jewelry …and the list goes on and on. We as Indians take pride in our culture and diversity. But, neglect to take pride in our own dog breeds and instead prefer western breeds. The over breeding of western breeds has caused our own dog breeds to go into the path of near extinction. It is hurtful to see when people don’t realize the greatness of our own Indian dog breeds.

A few centuries ago Indian Dog Breeds used to be exported in large numbers due to their hunting capabilities. They were recognized everywhere in the world but neglected in their own country. Everyone loves to pet furry canine dog breeds like labra, Shih Tzu but ignore breeds like a hound dog, Indian Spitz which is adaptable to our tropical climate.

The western breeds like Saint Bernard, Siberian Husky are not made for the Indian HOT climate. The tropical climate, humid atmosphere is causing major health issues to such breeds.
